Could LBJ Beat These Millennial Monstars In Space Jam 2?

Today is the 20th anniversary of Space Jam releasing back in 1996. If you haven’t seen the movie then you missed out on your childhood, but the quick rundown of the story is that MJ teams up with the Looney Tunes to defend their world against the Monstars. These aliens took the talents of five NBA players (Muggsy Bogues, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Shawn Bradley, and Larry Johnson) and challenged the Tunes to a game of basketball. Turn up the hero music as they recruit Michael Jordan to help *SPOILER ALERT* them win. Fast forward to right now and there are talks of a Space Jam 2 being made but instead of MJ teaming up, they have casted LBJ to be the new hero.

Since nobody knows the plot for Space Jam 2, we have decided to create our own with a modern day cast of the Monstars from current NBA players. We had to cast Pat Riley as the big bad boss man who is wanting to get back at LeBron for leaving Miami and breaking up the powerhouse team that he built. Riley ends up persuading the Monstars to steal the talent of five current players that all have a defining talent that will help knock King James down from his throne. The new Monstars are made up of Devin Booker, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Boogie Cousins, and Anthony Davis. All of these stars are craving a championship and have teamed up with Pat Riley and his intimidating ways to help bring down the King.

Pat Riley

The boss man. El Patrón. Owner of an intergalactic basketball team structured to take down LeBron James and the Tune Squad.The new Swackhammer is LeBron’s former boss, Pat Riley. Since the day LBJ left South Beach, Riley has been plotting how he can get back on top of the basketball world and knock LeBron down from his throne. It’s been two years since LeBron left and Pat Riley has finally come up with a way that he can get back at LeBron, create his own Monstars. Riley lures in the aliens and convinces them that they can live the lavish Miami lifestyle if they steal the talents of some of the best players in the NBA.

Devin Booker

The Young Gun. Devin Booker may not dominate the league yet, but he will. He’s only in his second season in the NBA but he’s already being recognized by the OG’s in the game for having major potential to take his game to the next level. Kobe Bryant doesn’t just give sneakers to anyone. Being so young and hungry, when the opportunity to team up with some of the biggest names in the game, the decision was a no-brainer for DBook. Mad handles combined with a deadly jump-shot make him a lethal PG on the court and a perfect fit on the squad.

Russell Westbrook

Decisive and explosive with unmatched speed. He’s the floor general, but right when you take your eyes off of him, he’ll shatter the backboard with a Monstar Dunk. His freakish athleticism and desire to prove everyone wrong about never winning a championship is what fuels Westbrook’s fire to join the team. While Larry Johnson was the two-guard in the first movie, the SG role in the game has changed since then. Russ dominates with and without the ball and is a matchup that will make any defense uneasy.

Paul George

Paul George. Athletic, resilient, and a factor on both sides of the court. His size and agility make him an unrelenting force on the court. You may be thinking “why Paul George?” But the guy is a 6’10” forward who can run the floor and handle the ball like the best guards in the game and then throw it down with a force we would never expect. George is out to let everyone know that they never should have slept on him and that he is a dominant force who is dying for a title.

Boogie Cousins

Boogie is just nasty. Takes pride in bullying James and the Tune Squad. His tenacity punishes the big men who dare step up to him in the paint. The enforcer. The original Monstars had Charles Barkley and Boogie is the perfect replacement. Hungry to win and won’t let anyone or anything stand in his way of snatching a title. You may only hear about him when he gets thrown out of a game, but Boogie Cousins is one player that any team would love to have and Riley snagged him up and combined him with an old friend to create a force in the paint. 

Anthony Davis

Every team needs a hard-nosed, hard-working, big man in the middle. His tenacity and ability to get things done in the clutch make him a valuable asset to this Monstar roster. Davis has led his teams with his star studded play, but can never get over the hump. The Brow is tired of losing. He wants to win more than anything and the thought of partnering with his UK brother on the court made this a no brainer decision for him. Imagine Boogie and Davis on the same team AND with super abilities. LeBron is going to need to pull every trick out of his bag to be able to get to the rim and try to contain these two on defense. Bugs, you may need to cook up some more secret stuff for your boy, LBJ.

- Will the talent of some of the top NBA players give the Monstars enough strength, skills and freakish looks to take the throne? Even with endless amount of possibilities and no real script to lean on, we’re sure that LBJ and the Tune Squad just won’t allow it to happen. Pat Riley will realize that while his team is a powerhouse, they were driven by the revenge that he instilled in them. That mentality tainted their passion and they were playing with no heart. The new and improved formula of LeBron’s Secret Stuff will fuel the Tunes while LBJ’s MVP caliber skill dominate the court. The Tune Squad will emerge victorious and the loss will allow the Monstars to see that they were better off without Pat Riley and the Miami lifestyle. As punishment for trying to change them, the Monstars use their remaining powers to banish Riley to Moron Mountain and lock him up in the Hall of Shame.

Alvin Kamara & Kelly Oubre Jr. Keep Their Style Unique With The adidas PureBOUNCE

They say your first year in the league is always the toughest, but for Alvin Kamara that wasn’t the case. The third-round pick for the New Orleans Saints came into the season as a newly minted 21-year-old, but he was clearly mature beyond his years. No other NFL player in the league is doing quite what he’s doing, and no other player looks quite like him either. In addition to wearing his hair in twists, he rocks two nose rings and a shiny gold grill in his mouth on the field. His unique style and unbeatable mindset in everything he does makes him two steps ahead of everyone on and off the field. Lining up in the Saints backfield, the opposing defense is sure to have all eyes on Kamara’s gold nose ring and grill as he grins under the stadium lights and figures out his route to the end zone before the play even starts. Alvin didn’t come up like most guys in the NFL, he went to Alabama with hopes of being the next big thing to play the game. Unfortunately, life didn’t play out that way and he ended up at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas before he eventually transferred to Tennessee and found his groove. He also keeps the same circle of homies that he had in high school. And those high school homies? They’re now known around the world by their rap names; Quavo, Offset and Takeoff, aka the No. 1 hit-making, Migos.

His creative look of the gold grill had some teams hesitant to pick Kamara but the Saints ultimately won out on other teams losses. The look is only a small part of Alvin, he is his own person who is determined to excel in everything that he does. Like his game on the gridiron, his style is rare in ways that he may step out some days and people might not notice him and sometimes he might step out to turn heads. He wears his stripes proud no matter what he’s doing on or off the field but the adidas PureBOUNCE has Alvin feeling comfortable. It’s perfect for putting in work or casual wear when he steps out.

Creating is always top of mind for Kelly Oubre Jr. aka Wave Papi aka Tsunami Papi. That mentality combined with his one of a kind style made him a perfect fit with the three-stripes. He introduced himself to the NBA wearing a red suit and gold spiky shoes during the 2015 draft and made sure people would remember him. His love for attention off the court didn’t disappoint when he hit the hardwood where he was as gritty on the court as he is flashy away from the game.

At only 22 years old, Kelly is still evolving everyday as a player on the court and as a person off the court. Last season, Kelly introduced the world to ‘Wave Papi’, his alter ego who spreads positivity throughout the world and inspires people to do anything they put their mind to, because everyone is destined for greatness. His motivation is to prove people wrong that tell him he can’t do something, so he gets a ‘fit off at every chance he gets to let them know he can’t be stopped. With it being the offseason right now, Oubre Jr. is in grind mode and spending countless hours in the gym to elevate his game and the adidas PureBOUNCE keeps him comfortable going to and from the gym.

A Faded Look Takes The Air Jordan Retro 1 High OG ‘Flight Nostalgia’ To Another Level

With 2019 off and rolling, we’ve seen Jordan Brand bring some classics back out and some new colorways that we haven’t seen before. Like they do every year for the NBA All-Star game, Jordan is coming for everyones pockets with all their drops that can’t be turned down. One of the many kicks they will be debuting is this new look Air Jordan Retro 1 High OG that is made new with weathered suede overlaying traditional tumbled leather with “SP 19 Air Jordan 1 Retro High” seen on the side of the shoe. Dressed in a colorway that is too clean; Tubro Green, White, Light Smoke Grey and Sail takeover the sneaker. This Air Jordan 1 comes in a pre-worn look that we haven’t seen on a Retro 1 before. Its Green and White upper with Yellow Nike Air tongue labels atop a Sail midsole and Grey rubber outsole completes the design. The UNC-esque color scheme is perfect for the release as they build off the hype of the All-Star game being in Charlotte.

Air Jordan Retro 10 City Pack 'Alternative'

Back in 1995, Jordan Brand dropped a collection of five Air Jordan 10’s that were called the ‘City Pack’. The five shoes represented the cities of New York, Sacramento, Orlando, Chicago, and Seattle. All the teams in these cities are notable for the times MJ battled with them throughout his career. You may remember that back in 2016 JB dropped a different city collection that was made up of eight cities, some new and old; New York, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Shanghai, Paris and Rio. 

Back in 2016 when the second City Pack was released, Brandon Edler, Renick Bowman and myself wanted to put a creative spin on the special pack. Like the original pack that featured cities of the teams that Jordan battled with the most, we decided to add a twist to it, honorable opponents of Jordan that he battled with throughout his career. These Retro 10’s feature the colorways of the teams MJ battled with and the number of the player to to pay homage to them. All images were created by Renick Bowman.

Indiana Pacers - Reggie Miller 31

MJ and Reggie battled for years as the Bulls would play the Pacers multiple times a year and throughout their careers the two of them made some very memorable moments that basketball fans still love to talk about. While Jordan may have gotten the best of his battles with Reggie holding a 32-17 record over him, Miller always seemed to get under Michaels skin. While the two stars would ruthlessly battle each other, there was always a mutual respect between the two. The silver lining for Pacers fans when it comes to these bouts with Jordan is from Game 4 of the 1998 Eastern Conference Finals where Reggie may have shoved off of Jordan to hit the game winning 3 to tie the series 2-2. Alas, the Bulls won the series to then go on their sixth NBA Finals.

Phoenix Suns - Charles Barkley 34

In his prime, Charles Barkley was an absolute force on the basketball court, he wasn’t given the nickname “The Round Mound of Rebound” for nothing. Barkley quickly became one of the NBA's most versatile players and accurate scorers capable of scoring from anywhere on the court and established himself as one of the NBA's premier players. During the 90’s, Barkley and Jordan would face off with each other and every game was a must watch. Their battle during the 1993 NBA Finals had some heated games but Jordan got the best of Barkley and the Suns and went on to win their first Three-peat of MJ’s career. The two had a relationship off the court and the trash talk didn’t end on the hardwood when they both retired, it just transitioned to the golf course.

Cleveland Cavaliers - Craig Ehlo 3

You might be thinking “Why Craig Ehlo?” and that’s a fair question. Ehlo may be MJ’s most famous victim for the historic shot that he hit over him on May 7, 1989 that would eliminate the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the 1989 first-round NBA playoffs series. Moments before Jordan hit the shot Ehlo had given the Cavaliers the lead with three seconds left but in typical Jordan fashion, he had to steal his thunder and send the Cavs home with that last second shot.

Atlanta Hawks - Dominique Wilkins 21

Dominique Wilkins was the star of the Atlanta Hawks and he battled Jordan in the historic 1988 NBA Dunk Contest. The relationship between Wilkins and Jordan started on the hardwood and that dunk contest was a complicated crossroads in the rivalry that spanned both real games and fun contests. What started in the mid 80’s as a Wilkins dominated relationship was starting to shift to a Jordan dominated one in the early 90’s. While Dominque won the ‘85 dunk contest in Indianapolis, Jordan took the crown in ‘88 with the historic free-throw line dunk that people still talk about.

Seattle Supersonics - Gary Payton 20

Gary Payton may have been one of the best trash talkers in the game but he never could seem to get over the mountain that was Michael Jordan. Payton shared a story from his rookie season when Jordan made sure that he guarded GP and said “Leave the f--king rookie to me," after remembering the trash talk that Payton used in the preseason matchup. The stalwarts of 1990s NBA basketball battled a lot over the years, including the 1996 NBA Finals, in which the Bulls edged the Sonics in six games. The two would jaw with each other on the court but there was always a mutual respect once the whistle blew.

Detroit Pistons - Isiah Thomas 11

Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s it was obvious to NBA fans that the Bulls and Pistons were not fans of each other and some of the games between the two were some of the most intense and physical games played. MJ and Isiah Thomas will forever be linked as many believe that Thomas and his "Bad Boy" Detroit Pistons were said to be one of the main obstacles that pushed Jordan to become he best player on the planet. Thomas had been accused of refusing to pass the ball to Jordan in the latter's first All-Star Game in 1985. Jordan responded to the accumulation of Thomas' tactics by allegedly seeing to it that Thomas was left off the '92 "Dream Team" in Barcelona. That teams known as the greatest basketball team put together. After many years of heated battle between the two, some of the most classic and intense NBA games came from this rivalry.

Los Angeles Lakers - Magic Johnson 32

Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan were easily two of the best players to every play the game of basketball and they both knew it. The majority of NBA fans consider Jordan to be the best ever, with Magic being the best point guard ever. When the two met in the 1991 NBA Finals the world tuned in. How could you not watch two of the best face off and watch the greatness that you may never see in your lifetime. That season would turn out to be Magics final season and when the Bulls won the title there was a sense of a passing of the torch from Magic to Michael. The two respected the hell out of each others game but even more than that they respected each other as people.

Jordan Brand Celebrates The Chinese New Year With The Air Jordan Retro 12

Jordan Brand is no stranger to celebrating the Chinese New Year with signature kicks. Over the years we’ve seen JB give us some dope sneakers that honor the zodiac animal sign for that year. Zodiac themed Jordan’s are nothing new, we’ve seen Retros; team Jordan’s, and even special packs that honored the Chinese New Year. Some of the most notoriously known colorways are the Year of the Rabbit, Year of the Dragon, Year of the Snake and this year, we get the Year Of the Pig.

This celebrated sneaker features a Black satin upper with White textured overlays to compliment the matching White sole. Metallic Gold details and the multicolored pattern that are found on the inner lining completes the design. It seems like every year around this time Jordan Brand drops a new Retro 11 release in a low-top version or the I.E. version. For those who don’t know, the Jordan 11 Low I.E. was first seen on Michael Jordan’s feet in 1995-96 during the NBA Playoffs (the same year the Chicago Bulls went 72-10), this was the first time since the AJI & AJII that a second silhouette height option of MJ’s signature shoe was made available. Once it was made clear that Sir Altitude was “all in” when it came to the Air Jordan 11 Low, Nike Inc wasted no time pumping out different colorways for him to wear.

Back in 2016 we got the OG version of the ‘Space Jam’ Air Jordan Retro 11 and now, we’re getting the summer appropriate I.E. version. Taking inspiration from the classic OG, The Air Jordan Retro 11 Low I.E. ‘Space Jam’ comes constructed out of a Black mesh and patent leather that’s so clean. Mesh makes up the majority of the shoes upper while Black leather takes over the toe box and is complimented by the signature patent leather from the Air Jordan 11 covers the entire mudguard. Instead of being on the outside of the heel like on the OG, the  Concord Jumpman is now found on the tongue, and the shoe is completed by white midsole, and an icy Blue translucent outsole.

Take It Back To Chi-Town With The Air Jordan Retro 1 High OG ‘Gym Red’

Jordan Brand is on an absolute tear this year and your wallet is probably taking a beating because of them. It seems like every weekend the releases get better and better and their next Retro to drop comes in a classic color scheme but in a new look that is a nice refresher for the Jordan Retro 1. The Retro 1 High OG is a sneaker-lover essential and this up and coming colorway is perfect if you’re a Bulls fan.

JB hasn’t been shy with their Retro 1 releases this year and this ‘Gym Red’ pair is one that your rotation must have. This pair comes dressed in a Black, White, Sail, and Gym Red color scheme that is the definition of a Jordan Brand shoe. Like we’ve seen on numerous Air Jordan 1’s, this pair features a White leather upper that is complemented by Black overlays and Red accents that are seen on the collar and Swoosh logos. UNC Vibes Dominate The Air Jordan Retro 1 High OG ‘Obsidian & University Blue′

Tar Heel fans rejoice. Jordan Brand is dropping a fresh Retro 1 in MJ’s classic alma-matters colorway that is too good not to love. JB has been bringing the heat with their Retro 1’s this year, after starting off strong with the release of the ‘Turbo Green’ Retro 1 during NBA All-Star weekend and many more since, this next pair may top them all. If this Retro 1 seems familiar, it’s because back in February the ladies got blessed with an all patent leather pair of 1’s in this colorway. There’s no doubt that the Retro 1 High has its level of significance, but they wouldn’t exist if Mike didn’t put in his time at UNC.

If you’re a UNC fan you’re gonna love this Retro 1 as it comes dressed in a Sail, Obsidian, and University Blue color scheme that is just too clean. This Air Jordan 1 has a lot of similarities to the women’s release that dropped back in February but instead of having a patent leather build, this pair comes in full leather. It features Sail leather on the upper with Obsidian and University Blue overlays. This pair comes done up with a Sail leather upper that is complemented by Obsidian leather on the toe, eyelets, ankle collar, and Swoosh. University Blue dons the ankle straps and heel area and sets off the tongue with ‘Nike Air’ branding on each tag.

They’ve brought back classics like the ‘Black Cement’ 3, ‘Shadow’ 1 and 10, ‘Altitude’13s and more and now they chopping the top on the ‘Cool Grey’ Retro 11. Just in time for summer, the ‘Cool Grey’ Jordan 11 Low is perfect for any ‘fit and occasion when you plan on stepping out. You may remember that the internet went crazy back in 2013 when MJ was spotted in a pair, and sneakerheads thought they were going to be blessed that year. It Doesn't Get Any Better Than The Air Jordan Retro 11 'Concord'

On May 7th, 1995 Michael Jordan stepped onto the hardwood for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals between the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic. All eyes in the stadium and across the country from the people watching on tv were locked in on Jordan, not because of a highlight play, but because of the shoes he had on. Nearly two months had passed since Jordan ended his 17-month retirement. When he returned, he shocked the basketball universe by switching to No. 45, not the No. 23 he’d previously worn for his entire NBA career. The new number was what he rocked for the Birmingham Barons playing in baseball’s minor leagues. All the other players on the court were donning the traditional playoff look of all black sneakers but MJ was showing off the fresh, predominantly white ‘Concord’ Air Jordan 11s. The No. 45 was there as well, printed in white on the heels of each shoe to match the jersey he had on. From there the rest is history.

From that moment, sneaker lovers, Michael Jordan historians, and fans of the game have looked at the ‘Concord’ Air Jordan 11 differently. The shoe has been described as “absolute perfection in a sneaker”, “the holy grail” and much more because of its White, ballistic mesh upper and a shiny, elegant Black patent leather wrap that was unlike anything that’d ever been seen on a sneaker. Then when good friend of Michael Jordan, Ahmad Rashad, decided to do a small feature on the patent leather shoes during the nationally broadcasted game, it sent the newly-forming sneaker community into a frenzy. There haven’t been too many moments like that since. Since 2011, this pair has accumulated numerous nicknames like ‘Blackout’, ‘Prom Night’ and others but Jordan Brand has dubbed these ‘Cap and Gown’ 11s. The all-black pair sports suede panels in place of the usual ballistic mesh, tonal branding hits, a metal Jumpman on the lateral heel in place of the usual stitched interpretation, a smokey outsole, and the model’s signature high-cut patent leather. To add to this pair’s theme, the black laces are made to resemble the cords worn by students on graduation day. Thanks to its shiny patent leather detailing resembling a dress shoe, the 11 has been re-purposed over the years by some as an “acceptable” compliment to formal wear.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Retro 4, they are dropping one of the most respected and classic colorways that make old Jordan lovers reminisce. Chris Paul Gets Honored With The Air Jordan Retro 12 ‘Class Of 2003’

Being a part of Jordan Brand is a special honor that not many get the honor of. The elite club of Jordan athletes, entertainers, and musicians who are on that special roster get their special pick of product, dope events, and even some get their own retro collaboration or signature model. Like we saw at the Super Bowl, Justin Timberlake got his own special iteration of the Jordan 3 and now Chris Paul is getting his own version of the Jordan 12.

This special retro is a part of the ‘Back To School’ collection that honors the respective alma maters of Jordan family members Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony. Taking on his high schools colors, this Air Jordan 12 honors Chris Paul’s alma mater, West Forsyth High School. To match West Forsyth’s school colors, this Air Jordan 12 comes dressed in a combination of Olive, Sail, Black, and Metallic Gold, respectively. A premium feel takes over on this pair, with its eyelets being dipped in Metallic Gold for a premium vibe, this pair also replaces leather with a satin and suede combo. The wait is almost over for the Jordan-heads who have been begging for a release of the classic Air Jordan Retro 4 ‘Cool Grey’. It’s been 15 long years since this coveted pair released and this new retro is welcomed with open arms by many. 2019 has been a strong year for the Air Jordan 4. As JB has been celebrating the model’s 30th anniversary with releases of OG colorways that have become elite over the years and new ones that are a breath for the line.

Like we saw with the ‘Bred‘ Retro 4 back in May, this ‘Cool Grey’ release is returning in true OG form that sneakerheads are sure to love. Depending on who you ask, some would say that the ‘Cool Grey’ 4’s are one of the most sought after Retro’s given that they’ve only released one time.  Like the original release, this pair comes dressed in a Cool Grey, Chrome, Dark Charcoal, and Varsity Maize makeup. This pair looks very similar to the original 2004 release which should please a lot of Jordan purists. The shoes features a Grey upper allover and is complemented by Charcoal detailing on the sock liner and tongue. Since the original didn’t have the beloved ‘Nike Air’ on the heel, a Chrome Jumpman logo is found on the heels. For that little pop of color, the shoe is completed with Yellow accents on the tongue tag, heel’s Air Max unit, and outsole.
